Black History Month 2011

Monday 3rd October - Friday 21st October

Teachers have found the Once Upon A Story to be an invaluable tool in engaging children and developing language and communication while cultivating an appreciation of cultural diversity.

This Black History Month, Once Upon a Story will be exploring storytelling traditions from across Africa and the Caribbean. Our performances are very interactive and include drumming and traditional songs.

East African Safari

Come on safari and hear traditional African stories about all the animals you will meet, large and small. Learn new songs and try out some counting in Swahili.

Suitable for Foundation, KS1 and 2

West African Tricksters: Anansi and more!

Listen to the antics of the very best tricksters of West Africa, from the Ashanti folk hero and spiderman Anansi to the half man have God Eshu, an infamous Yoruba trickster and troublemaker. These tales will make you laugh out loud!

Suitable for Foundation, KS1 and 2

Tales of the Caribbean: Spirits, Duppies and Mermaids

Do you believe in Ghosts? Listen to these funny, silly and (just a little bit) scary stories about the duppies and strange spirits of the Caribbean. Meet a mermaid or the spiderman Anancy along the way!

Suitable for KS2

Booking information

Our sessions are suitable for groups of up 120 children. During Black History Month we have a minimum booking of 2 sessions, costing £250.

All day bookings offer the best value for money whilst allowing the whole school to experience the magic of a live storytelling performance. This is a very popular time of year with many slots already taken by returning customers, so book now to avoid disappointment!
